Why Use Micronized Rubber Powder
An Ideal Raw Material for Three Simple Reasons – Cost, Performance, Sustainability
MRP can significantly reduce the cost of a product formulation. MRP replaces rubber- and oil-based feedstocks, which are priced based on volatile commodity markets. Pound-for-pound, MRP offers up to 50 percent savings over these virgin raw materials, offering customers a compelling solution to boost the bottom line.
Lehigh’s MRPs are highly engineered, durable, tough and versatile. Every day, our customers take advantage of the fact that our MRPs retain the inherent benefits of rubber, which in turn can provide the required performance in certain applications. Performance benefits of using Lehigh’s MRPs include:
-
Water resistance
-
Energy savings
-
Flexibility
-
Sound dampening
-
Vibration deadening
-
Wet traction
-
Anti-fatigue
-
Durability
-
Thermal insulation
-
Oil resistance
One example of improved performance as a result of MRP adoption is in asphalt. Incorporating MRP into rubber-modified asphalt (RMA) results in longer-lasting, quieter road surfaces with lower total cost. Lehigh has partnered with state transportation departments and contractors to provide these higher performance road surfaces, and Lehigh’s MRPs have been used in resurfacing projects throughout the Southeast U.S. Similar systems are being tested and commercialized in Europe and Asia.
By using Lehigh MRPs, customers improve the sustainability of their products and help provide an environmental benefit to society. Adding MRP eliminates waste that would otherwise go into landfills, helping reduce the need for oil-based feedstocks, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gases. Customers around the world are making progress on their sustainability targets by using MRP in their products.
